The Go Outside Guild to Finding the Tulip Fields

Happy April, everyone! The sun is out, it’s a beautiful day, and it truly feels like spring has arrived. With the arrival of April comes the famous Skagit Valley tulips!

Seeing the tulips never gets old. I look forward to tulip season every year - the fields are just so beautifully full of color. Where to find the tulips is one of the most-asked questions at the shop in April, so this post will focus on navigating the fields

First, I should mention the display gardens. There are four main gardens:

For more information about each garden, you can click the link in the garden name.

They are all wonderful for getting an up-close look at the blooms. You won't go wrong with any of them, but if I had to choose, I would go to Roozengarde. It's the original (the OG garden) and the family behind it are the primary tulip farmers in the Skagit.

If you prefer to skip the gardens, driving the backroads to see the fields is a great day out. Here is a guide and map to the Skagit Valley tulip fields:

Go Outside Map of Skagit Valley Tulip Fields

  • Field 1 (Off of Chilberg): You can see the color in the distance, but this field is not accessible from the road.1

  • Field 2 (Best Road): This is a great spot to get up close to the tulips. There is parking ($10 fee) and it is run by Roozengaarde. You can park and walk these fields and still miss the crowds of the display gardens.

  • Field 3 (Mclean): Just pretty fields to drive by.

  • Field 4 (Best Road, north of Mclean): Pretty fields close to the road

  • Field 5 (Off Bradshaw Road): Another beautiful field to see in the distance.1

I drove all the back roads and all the normal tulip spots to make this guide, I don’t think I missed any, but this is a ‘produced by Karli map and guide :-)

I want to be a good neighbor and mention a few things for anyone visiting:

  • Wear boots or good mud shoes; the fields are muddy!!

  • Unless marked as okay (like Field 2), please do not walk in the fields—they are for agricultural bulb production.

  • It is not encouraged to park on the side of the road, though everyone does it.

  • Bring a picnic or stop in La Conner or Mount Vernon for lunch :-)

Have fun and enjoy one of the prettiest times in the Skagit Valley!
